This vs. That: Round Twenty

Oh my, This vs. That has hit twenty! That’s a lot of ermming and ahhing and analysis. This time I am looking at two striking images with the connection of fringes and actually quite a lot more. Mario Sughi takes on former Visual Female of the Month, Kaethe Butcher in a sexy showdown. To see this battle take place all you need to do is click this swanky little link. It might just change your life (unlikely, but you never know!)

Check out Round Twenty: Fringes here.

This vs. That is back again and this time I am looking at some visual representations of the one and only Nymphomaniac (Von Trier). I love this film and was really impressed with the way Von Trier approached the subject, as well as his amazing execution and stellar cast. I have been heading to the cinema a little as the International Film Festival is here at the moment. I have picked two good ones so far, but don’t know if I can afford to go to any more! Although it will be hard to stop as they have both been so good! Film can be so wonderful. Aren’t we lucky to have access into the minds of creatives through film, art, writing and music?

Check out Round Nineteen: Nymphomanic here.

It’s time for another This vs. That. Today I look at the The Mouth as subject matter and compare some interesting images while trying to understand what they are saying while evaluating their aesthetic and technical quality. I really love both images and analysing them helped me gain a better understanding. But, with what I consider quite open, or complex pieces up for discussion, I’m sure there is always something I’m missing. Take a read and let me know your opinion of Round Eighteen: The Mouth.

It’s time for this months This vs. That. Today I am looking at some interesting collages of my favourite flapper, Louise Brooks. With Move Monday still in my head, I thought if fitting to dedicate this week to lovely Louise. To see her dancing, check out Move Monday: Lulu vs. Gaga and to have a look at two collage attempts and hear my opinions, Round Seventeen: Louise Brooks will do the trick. Oh, and I’m back to my original This vs. That template – much nicer!

Time for this months glorious This vs. That. Today I look at some of Ruben Ireland’s art in tattoo form. Quite  interesting and worth having a look if just for the tattoos. Get reading Round Sixteen: Tattooed and have a think about what piece of art you would have tattooed if you could. Would it reproduce well or would it be just too hard? I always thought something by Man Ray would be pretty cool. Enjoy

Time for this months This vs. That. My template decided not to open, so I made a new template for today’s post. Might mix it up each month from now on, or go back to normal next month. Will have to see what the world wants me to do.

Anyway, Round Fifteen: Additions is up now. The first for 2014 – I hope you like it!

Time for this months This vs. That. For the month of November I look at some simple black, white and red pieces (from Mariam Tronchoni and Sofia Bonati) that use eyes in rather different ways. Check out Round Fourteen: Red to see these images in full, and hear my thoughts on who delivers the best piece. Today was an easy choice for me, but will it be for you?

Time for this months This vs. That. For the month of October I look at some fun, fantasy pieces (from Olga Noes and Zan Von Zed) that both integrate their women into their fantasy environments to perfection!  Check out Round Thirteen: Kingdoms to see these images in full, and hear my thoughts on who delivers the best piece. I loved both these pieces, and had an unusual outcome today. To find out what, and to enjoy the read, click here.

We are halfway thought August (I know, can you believe it?) which means it’s time for This vs. That. This month I look at some art that is pretty realistic, but also has some interesting compositional elements. Round Eleven: Realism  is worth a read, as I discuss some fresh ideas I haven’t really touched on before. I know there are a few of you out there that really love This vs. That, which makes me oh so happy. I hope you enjoy this months edition and my composition analysis. Stay cool (you know who you are).

Mid-month has flown around again, which means a push and a shove for me to get analytical. Yes, that’s just my fancy way of saying it’s time for This vs. That. This month I look at the use of colour by the means of splatter and such in Round Ten: Splashes. Be sure to have a read and let me know your wonderful thoughts on the matter. Do you like art in this style? Who did it better here? And who does it best in general? Got your own mixed media piece that you would like to share? Let me know – I’m always on the hunt for more artwork to share and promote.

As always, thanks for reading x

It’s time for Round Nine of This vs. ThatThis month I look at two pieces by Jen Mann. The catch is, that the pieces are actually only one piece (!?). Well, not exactly, but I look at how she has edited an existing piece of hers to make a new piece. Photography, luckily, allows us to see the before and after to which I comment on. Have a read over Round Nine: Visibility and let me know what piece you prefer. Did Jen Mann make the work better? Or should she have left it alone? Or, perhaps it could still be worked on? As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts.

Round Eight of This vs. That is up. This month I look at representations of Skulls in the work of Kelly Durette and Florian Meacci. Be sure to check out my analysis and debate to see who I decided was this months winner.

I’m also trying to update my blog a bit, so you will notice my new way of promoting This vs. That! Way more visual, and a little bit more exciting. But do make sure to have a read over Round Eight: Skulls and let me know what you think – and what you think of  my new way of promoting This vs. That. As you know, it’s always great to hear your awesome feedback!

This vs. That: Round Seven

My seventh edition of This vs. That is up. This time I look at artists who warp the face in unusual and fresh ways. Check out Round Seven: Faceless and let me know what you think. Do you like artists who use unusual techniques? Or do you prefer more traditional art? Who do you think does the faceless style better? Or do you know an artist that does it better than both of the ones shown? Let me know your thoughts.

This vs. That: Round Six

My sixth edition of This vs. That is up for your viewing and reading pleasure! This time I look at some art that uses creepy children as the subject matter. Well worth checking out for the quality of the art. I love both these pieces so it was a hard decision for me. I would love to hear some feedback to see what you guys think, so get typing and share your voice. Enjoy your weekend and I hope you don’t run into any creepy children on your outings! xx

This vs. That: Round Four

Well it’s time for my fourth edition of This vs. That. I’ve been enjoying doing these pieces so please make an effort to click on the link and actually read my writing – I know a picture is worth a thousands words, but I’ve got a few hundred to add too! This time I’m looking at some wonderful Street Art with both pieces incorporating a woman (no surprises there!) and an animal. Let me know if I picked the right winner, or if I’m plain out of my mind. Peace and happiness x

This vs. That

I’ve decided to grow my blog a little and include some other features.  So the first to arrive is the ‘This vs. That’ page.  Here I will take two images in which I find similarities – be it in style, subject matter, or the name of the image.  Then I will analyze aspects of each image and conclude who I think is the winner.  As it will only be my opinion, I would love to hear what other people think too – so tell me did I pick the right winner, or am I completely off the mark?

Check out Round One: Legs here
