Visual Female of the Month – December

– Sasha Melnik

sashamelnik

Sasha Melnik is a graphic designer who has recently combined her talent for design with her love for fashion. Her animal print jumpers were recently launched and unite fashion and design in a rather wonderful way. I love sweatshirts like this – easy and casual, but bold enough to make a statement. You can see these designs have been well thought out and seamlessly connect as a collection, while also catering to different tastes. The blend of shapes into geometrics is subtle and adds a certain structure to the designs. You can visit Sasha’s website or Facebook to keep up to date with existing and up and coming garments.

Sasha is also offering a 20% DISCOUNT to all my readers, as well as free shipping to my homeland (NEW ZEALAND). To get this exciting offer, use the PROMO CODE – VISUAL FEMALE when ordering here

Now for the interview….

You’ve recently launched a clothing brand that has some pretty cool sweatshirt designs. What’s next on the agenda?

Thanks! I am working on a monochrome collection at the moment. My goal is to push the boundaries of wearability of graphic patterns especially when it comes to men’s fashion.

What kind of people do you hope to cater to with your brand?

Passionate, cosmopolitan and gutsy who love comfort and hate seeing someone else wearing the same clothes as they are.

Did you always plan to combine your interest in fashion with your skills as a graphic designer?

Not really.. I dreamt about designing Vogue pages when I was at college but I never planned to make clothes. It feels so natural right now though,

It’s the most satisfying work I’ve ever done.

What is you favourite form of self-expression?

Designing, Dressing and Instagraming

What’s an average day like for Sasha Melnik?

I spend a lot of time in front of my Mac maintaining a solid marriage with Illustrator and staying on top of everything creative in this world.

I work out and write my diary in the mornings and eat out with my friends at night. It’s life’s loop you see.

If you somehow hurt your vision, would you choose to wear glasses or contacts?

Glasses. Lenses have no personality.

Excluding sight, what two other senses are your favourites?

Smell and touch

Who is the most inspiring woman you know and why?

Natalia Vodianova for founding Naked Heart Foundation and being a kind, humble and classy woman that she is.

What is your favourite thing about yourself?

My ability to sacrifice what I want now for what I want eventually.

What is on your bedroom walls currently?

Mirror! Big arse mirror and a framed M.I.A poster I designed for Enmore Theatre.

Favourite clothing / accessory / product at the moment?

Acne leather jacket I bought in Stockholm.

Favourite artist at the moment:

And finally, any words of advice for people stepping into the creative sector?

Surround yourself with hardworking like-minded people and don’t be afraid to fail
